Multiple Teams · Varsity Baseball Tunes up for District Play at Western Hills Tournament

The Burleson Elks Varsity baseball team finished up its non-district portion of the 2017 schedule this past weekend at the Cougar Classic Tournament at Western Hills High School. Here’s what happened:

Thursday, March 9th:
The Elks started the tournament off with a 4-1 victory over the Western Hills Cougars on Thursday afternoon. Senior 1B/P Christian Hallack delivered his best start of the season, allowing no earned runs and just four hits in a complete came effort. He struck out three and walked just one. Hallack (2-1) has allowed just two walks in 19 innings this season.

At the plate, Junior 3B/P Trey Lopez was 1-3 with a double and two RBI. Senior 1B Parker Shaha also had a double.

Friday, March 10th:
Game 1-The Elks couldn’t overcome a couple of big innings in a 15-9 loss the Bears of Brewer High School Friday morning. Senior C Nic Sanchez had a big day at the plate, putting up a 2-4 effort with a triple, a double, and 4 RBI. Junior OF/P Kayden Cassidy also had a double.

Game 2-BHS got back on track Friday afternoon with a 12-0 run-rule victory over Wichita Falls High School. Kayden Cassidy threw the Elks’ first shutout of the season, striking out 9 Coyotes over 4 innings. He allowed only three baserunners on the day (two singles and one walk).

Several Elks had big days at the plate. Cassidy was 2-3 with a double; Senior OF Davin White was 2-2 with a triple, 3 runs scored, 3 RBI, and a walk; Christian Hallack was 2-3 with two doubles, a run scored, and two RBI. Parker Shaha had the biggest day, finishing 2-2 with a home run, a run scored, 4 RBI, and a walk. The home run was Shaha’s second of the year.

Saturday, March 11th:
The Elks couldn’t overcome an early 5-0 deficit against the Birdville Hawks, and lost 7-2 on Saturday morning.

Davin White was 1-3 with a double and an RBI, and Nic Sanchez was 1-2 with an RBI and a walk.

Senior 3B/P J.T. Smith threw two innings of relief, and allowed no earned runs on one hit; he struck out two.

Up Next:
District 9-5A play begins with a Tuesday home game against the Granbury Pirates. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM.
