The Burleson High School 9th Grade football teams both improved to 2-0 on the 2017 season with wins Thursday night at Burleson Stadium. Here’s what happened:
The 9th Grade Red Team rode a stout defensive effort to a 12-2 victory over the Joshua Owls in a non-district game. The defense pitched a shutout, as the Owls’ only points came on a fumble return on an Elk two-point conversion try. DT Jonathan White and DE Tyler Logan were solid against the run all afternoon, each racking up 4 tackles.
Two passing touchdowns from QB Chris Cook to WR Michael Reedy netted the Elks their points on offense.
The Red Team will look to move to 3-0 on Thursday, September 14th, against the Weatherford Kangaroos. Kickoff is set for 5:30 PM at Burleson Stadium.
The 9th Grade Black Team shutout Fort Worth Paschal 42-0 in a dominating defensive performance. The Panthers were limited to just two first downs, and did not cross the Elks’ 40-yard line all night. LB Quentin Husband led the way with 6 tackles.
Offensively, the Elks shrugged off a sluggish start and eventually found their footing. RB Aswan Bonner had two rushing touchdowns, and WR Max Brunken hauled in a touchdown pass from QB Ethan McBrayer.
The Black Team wraps up its non-district slate on Thursday, September 14th, against the Fightin’ Roos of Weatherford High. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM at Burleson Stadium.
