Elks Defeat Granbury 42-6:
Friday night the Elks defeated Granbury 42-6 in the 9-5A District opener. Both teams entered the game 3-0 to open district play. Jaylen Johnson returned the opening kick off for a touchdown to get the Elks of to a fast start. Granbury answered on their opening drive making the score 7-6 in the first Qtr. However that would be the last time the Pirates reached the endzone. The Elk offense scored on a 4 yard run by QB Jacob Amador on the Elk offense first drive of the game. The Elks never looked back after that! A relentless defensive effort and a solid special teams performance kept the Offense in great field position all night long. After the initial score by the pireates, the Elk offense rattled off 35 unanswered points, thanks in part by great punt returns by Jaylen Johnson and an interception by Linebacker Carson Hallack. The kick off and punt coverage teams were outstanding not allowing the Pirate returners any room to run once the kick was fielded. Jaylen Johnson also caused and recovered a fumble by a Pirate punt returner setting up a touchdown by the Elk offense deep inside Pirate territory. The win last Friday puts The Elks at 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in district 9-5A.
