The Burleson High School JV Red and JV Black Baseball teams went 2-0 Monday night against the Haltom Buffalos at Elk Field. Here’s what happened:
The JV Red jumped out to an early lead versus Haltom on its way to a 13-5 victory in 5 innings.
Sophomore Colby Oliver (1-0) earned the win, pitching 2 pre-planned innings; he allowed one earned run on three hits, and struck out one. Sophomore Jackson Shaha pitched two strong innings in relief, allowing no runs and striking out four.
It was a balanced attack offensively that led the to the Elks’ 13 runs, as seven of the nine starters had at least one base hit. Sophomores Skylar Webb, Blake Myers, and Blake Metts all had two-hit days; Webb had two doubles, and Myers added a triple.
With the win, the JV Red is now 2-0 on the young season. The team will be back in action on Thursday, March 1st, in the Mansfield Timberview Tournament. Game One is scheduled for 6:00 PM versus Fort Worth North Side High School.
The JV Black used a five-run 3rd inning to fuel an 8-1 win in 6 innings over the Buffalos.
The Elk offense was paced by Chris Pritchett and Cole Worley, who each tallied three hits and scored a run. Worley and Taylor Branch had two RBI.
Pitchers Devin Richerson and Cole Worley split the workload down the middle, as they each threw 3 innings. Richerson allowed no runs on three hits and struck out six to pick up the win, the first of his Elk career. Worley allowed 1 unearned run on two hits, and struck out two in picking up his first career save.
The JV Black will play next in the Mansfield Timberview Tournament on Thursday, March 1st, against the Jaguars of Dallas Molina High School. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM at Timberview High School.
