Boys JV Black Baseball, Boys JV Red Baseball · JV Baseball Teams Sweep Richland Monday Night

The JV Black and JV Red traveled to Richland High School Monday night, and each team picked up a victory. Here’s what happened:

JV Black 10
Richland 4

The JV Black offense carried the day in a 10-4 victory against the Rebels. The game was called after 5 innings due to the game’s time limit.

Freshman Casey Bonar led the Elk attack, finishing 3-4 with three RBI, a double, and a run scored. Freshman Nick Cartmill was 1-2 with three runs scored, two RBI, a double, and two walks.

Freshman Devin Richerson pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball in relief of starter Taylor Branch, and allowed but one hit. He walked none and struck out two to earn his second win of the season.

With the win, the JV Black is now 3-2 on the season.

JV Red 4
Richland 1

The JV Red rode the right arm of Skylar Webb to a 4-1 win against the Rebels.

Webb, a sophomore, went the distance Monday night, pitching 7 strong innings to get his first win of the season. Webb allowed 11 hits, but permitted no walks or hit-batters; he struck out 5. It’s the first complete game of his career.

Sophomore catcher Caleb Kirby was a difference-maker behind the plate. He threw out would-be base stealers at both 2nd and 3rd base, and also made a nice play on a bunt attempt to get the lead runner at 3rd in the 3rd inning.

Offensively, the Elks were led by Junior Preston Majerus, who was 3-3 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Kayce Young also had a double and scored a run in three at-bats.

The JV Red is now 4-1 on the 2018 season.
