The Burleson High School JV Red Baseball team split a District 9-5A doubleheader with the Joshua Owls Thursday afternoon in Joshua. Here’s what happened:
The Elks couldn’t hold a late lead in Game One, losing 9-5 to the Owls. The game was called in the 5th inning due to District 9-5A time limit rules.
Junior Dereck Perez was 2-3 with a double and two runs scored.
BHS rebounded after a tough loss in Game One, and won Game Two 4-1 in six innings; the game was called after six innings due to the district time limit.
Junior Kain Rodriguez pitched a complete game for the Elks, earning his second win versus the Owls in five days. Rodriguez allowed one run on six hits, and struck out nine.
Sophomore Caleb Kirby was 2-3 with a home run (the 1st of his career). Sophomore Zion Webster was 1-2 with a walk; his two-RBI single in the 4th inning proved to be the game-winner.
With the split, the JV Red is now 9-3 on the season, and 1-2 in District 9-5A play. The Elks will return to action on Monday, March 19th, against the Everman Bulldogs. First pitch is set for 7:30 PM at Elk Field.
