Senior Kayden Cassidy continued his stellar start to the 2018 season, striking out 13 Everman Bulldogs in an 11-0 win Tuesday night in Everman; the game was called after 5 innings due to the District 9-5A Mercy Rule.
Cassidy dominated the ‘Dogs for his second district win in as many starts. He allowed just two hits, and struck out at least 10 hitters for the fourth time in five starts; the shutout was his first of the year. For the season, Cassidy is 5-0 with a 0.28 ERA and has struck out 57 hitters in 25 1/3 innings pitched.
The Elk offense scored in every inning and collected a season-high 14 hits, including 5 extra-base hits. Sophomore Colton McCallum was 2-3 with two triples, two runs scored, and a walk. Sophomore Carson Hallack was 3-4 with a double, a run scored, and two RBI. Senior Nik Bengochea was 2-2 with a run scored and three RBI. Sophomores Blake Myers and T.J. Pound each had two-hit games.
Coach Bruce’s squad is now 10-7 on the year, and 2-1 in District 9-5A play. The next game will be a cross-town showdown with the rival Centennial Spartans on Friday, March 23rd. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM at Elk Field.
