The BHS Varsity Baseball team rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to defeat the Arlington Seguin Cougars 6-5 in walk-off fashion Thursday night in Burleson.
The Elks were down 5-4 entering the bottom of the 7th inning when Sophomore Blake Myers reached on an error. Junior Cody Griever then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move him to second. Sophomore Colton McCallum doubled home Myers to tie the game, then scored the game-winning run on Senior Kayden Cassidy’s RBI single. McCallum finished the night 2-3 with a double, a walk, 3 runs scored, and an RBI. Cassidy was 3-4 with a run scored and two RBI.
Junior Cameron Hauch overcame a rough first two innings to earn the victory on the mound. He allowed 5 runs (all but one unearned) in the first two frames, then shut the Cougars down the rest of the way. He allowed just 4 hits in 7 innings, and struck out three. Hauch needed just 29 pitches to get through the last 4 innings of the game. He’s now 1-0 on the season.
The win bumps the Elks’ overall record to 11-9, and 3-3 in District 9-5A play. Coach Bruce’s squad returns to action on Tuesday, April 3rd, against the Crowley Eagles. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM at Crowley High School.
