Boys JV Black Baseball, Boys JV Red Baseball · Sub-Varsity Baseball Sweeps Crowley


The BHS JV Black and JV Red Baseball teams swept the Crowley Eagles Monday night in Crowley. Here’s what happened:

JV Black

The JV Black posted a season-high 18 hits en route to a 12-0 victory against the Crowley JV White team; the game was called after the 5th inning due to the District 9-5A mercy rule.

Freshmen Nick Cartmill and Ethan McBrayer led the offense with three hits apiece. Cartmill was 3-4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and two RBI. McBrayer was 3-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base. Freshmen Cole Worley and Casey Bonar also had doubles.

Freshmen Taylor Branch and Devin Richerson split mound duties for the Elks. Branch started the game and pitched a pre-planned two innings to earn the win, his third of the season. He allowed no hits or walks, and struck out three Eagles. Richerson pitched three strong innings in relief to earn the save, allowing just two hits; he struck out two.

The win bring’s the JV Black’s record to 10-3-1 on the season, and 6-0-1 in District 9-5A play. The Elks return to action on Saturday, April 7th, with a doubleheader against the Granbury Pirates. Game One is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM at Elk Field. Game Two will begin approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of Game One.

JV Red

The JV Red overcame an early 2-0 deficit to post an 11-2 victory over the Crowley JV Purple team. The game was called after the 6th inning due to the District 9-5A time-limit rule.

After allowing two unearned runs in the 1st inning, Junior Kain Rodriguez settled in and had a solid outing. He pitched a pre-planned 3 innings, allowing a hit and walk and striking out four, to earn the victory. Rodriguez is now 3-1 on the season. Sophomore Colby Oliver allowed just one hit and struck out four in 3 solid relief innings to earn the save.

Junior Luke Magilley had a big night at the plate, finishing 2-4 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBI. Magilley also had a stolen base, one of six on the night for the Elks. Juniors Dereck Perez and Carlos Trujillo also had two-hit games.

With the victory, the JV Red now stands at 12-5 overall, and 4-4 in District 9-5A games. Coach Snapp’s squad returns to action on Saturday, April 7th, with a doubleheader against the Granbury Pirates. Game One is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM at Tidwell Field in Granbury. Game Two will begin approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of Game One.
