Multiple Teams · Frosh Football Sweeps Joshua

The Burleson High School 9th grade football teams went 2-0 Thursday evening against the Joshua Owls at Burleson Stadium. Here’s what happened:

Red Team
The BHS Red Team turned in its most dominating performance of the season in a 30-0 win against the Owls.

The Elks got on the board early, turning a short field into a 6-0 lead on a 35-yard touchdown pass from QB Matt Maynard to WR Devin Richerson. The lead was extended in the 2nd quarter to 14-0 after a 1-yard run by QB Chris Cook; Cook hooked up with WR Michael Reedy for the 2-point conversion.

The 3rd quarter saw the two teams trade punts, then a fumble recovery mid-4th quarter by the Elks led to the next score, a 6-yard run by Cook. Cook then hit Richerson for the 2-pointer, upping the score to 22-0.

The Elks recovered an Owl fumble on the ensuing kickoff, and capped the game’s scoring on a 24-yard touchdown run by RB Gabriel Resch. Matt Maynard ran in the 2-pointer.

The Red Team is now 3-2 on the season, and 1-1 in District 9-5A play. The team returns to action on Thursday, October 12th, against the Everman Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 5:30 PM at Marr Stadium on the campus of Everman High School.

Black Team
The BHS Black team defeated Joshua 34-12 behind a 3-touchdown effort from RB Jarrett Austin.

Austin had touchdown runs of 83 yards, 13 yards, and 1 yard. He also tacked on a 2-point conversion run to finish with 20 points scored on the night.

Other scores included a 57-yard touchdown pass from QB Ethan McBrayer to WR Nick Cartmill and an 8-yard touchdown run by RB/WR Aswan Bonner. McBrayer and Cartmill also hooked up on a 2-pointer.

The win ups the Black Team’s record to 4-1 overall, and 1-1 in District 9-5A play. Next up is the Bulldogs of Everman High; kickoff is set for 7:00 PM on October 12th at Marr Stadium in Everman.

The Burleson High School 9th Grade football teams went 1-1 against the Weatherford Kangaroos Thursday night at Burleson Stadium. Here’s what happened:

Red Team
The 9th Grade Red Team couldn’t hold a late lead, and dropped its first game of the season by a score of 8-6.

QB Chris Cook scored on a 65-yard run on the Elks’ first offensive play, giving BHS an early 6-0 lead.

The Roos scored the game-tying touchdown with 3:30 left in the 4th quarter, and took the lead on the ensuing 2-point try. The Elk offense went 4-and-out on its next possession, sealing the win for Weatherford.

The Red Team is now 2-1 on the season. After the bye week, the Red Team will begin the District 9-5A portion of its schedule on Thursday, September 28th, against the Pirates of Granbury High School. Kickoff is set for 5:30 PM at Perkins Field in Granbury.

Black Team

Leading that defense was LB Quentin Husband, who racked up a team-high 7 tackles. CB Chase Walker had his first interception of the season, and FS Nick Cartmill added a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Offensively, the Elks were paced by RB Jarrett Austin, who finished with a game-high 187 yards rushing on 18 carries; he also scored a touchdown.
