The Burleson High School 9th grade football teams went 2-0 Thursday evening against the Joshua Owls at Burleson Stadium. Here’s what happened:
The BHS Red Team turned in its most dominating performance of the season in a 30-0 win against the Owls.
The Elks got on the board early, turning a short field into a 6-0 lead on a 35-yard touchdown pass from QB Matt Maynard to WR Devin Richerson. The lead was extended in the 2nd quarter to 14-0 after a 1-yard run by QB Chris Cook; Cook hooked up with WR Michael Reedy for the 2-point conversion.
The 3rd quarter saw the two teams trade punts, then a fumble recovery mid-4th quarter by the Elks led to the next score, a 6-yard run by Cook. Cook then hit Richerson for the 2-pointer, upping the score to 22-0.
The Elks recovered an Owl fumble on the ensuing kickoff, and capped the game’s scoring on a 24-yard touchdown run by RB Gabriel Resch. Matt Maynard ran in the 2-pointer.
The Red Team is now 3-2 on the season, and 1-1 in District 9-5A play. The team returns to action on Thursday, October 12th, against the Everman Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 5:30 PM at Marr Stadium on the campus of Everman High School.
The BHS Black team defeated Joshua 34-12 behind a 3-touchdown effort from RB Jarrett Austin.
Austin had touchdown runs of 83 yards, 13 yards, and 1 yard. He also tacked on a 2-point conversion run to finish with 20 points scored on the night.
Other scores included a 57-yard touchdown pass from QB Ethan McBrayer to WR Nick Cartmill and an 8-yard touchdown run by RB/WR Aswan Bonner. McBrayer and Cartmill also hooked up on a 2-pointer.
The win ups the Black Team’s record to 4-1 overall, and 1-1 in District 9-5A play. Next up is the Bulldogs of Everman High; kickoff is set for 7:00 PM on October 12th at Marr Stadium in Everman.
